Submission

To submit a quote, simply click the big yellow "submit" button in the upper right corner of the page and follow the instructions. You must be logged in to submit a quote.

Categories

Most quote sites only allow users to submit simple quotes: a blurb of text with an associated author. We want to be able to capture more than just plain vanilla quotes, so there are 3 types of quotes in the quotiki system:

  • Quotes— What you might normally think of as a quote. Quotes have no participants except for the person or character who wrote or spoke it.

  • Dialogs— An excerpt of speech from two or more participants. The participants in a dialog are people or characters. Thus, when submitting a dialog, you are prompted to match the participants to people in our system.

  • Chat logs— An excerpt from a chat room or instant messaging conversation. The participants in a chat log are people logged into the chatroom or an online buddy. Since these may be people who have a Quotiki profile, you are prompted to match the participants to users in our system when submitting a chat log.

Tags

Tags are like categories, but more powerful. A quote, person or source can have multiple tags assigned to it. Because a tag can be applied more than once to the same item, they are shown in varying sizes corresponding to the number of times the tag has been used.

To tag an item in Quotiki, simply enter the tag in the textbox labeled "Enter a tag..." and press enter. Quotiki will try to lookup the tag as you type it to see if it corresponds
